Judge Robert Wilbrandt is a McHenry County Circuit Court Judge, having served as a Judge in McHenry County for over eleven years.
Judge Wilbrandt began his legal career in the McHenry County Public Defender’s Office, starting as an intern and working his way up to Chief Public Defender. He then moved on to private practice, becoming a local prosecutor for the Village of Fox River Grove, and then helping to build his family’s Crystal Lake law firm. During this time, he served as an Advocate Training Attorney and legal advisor for Turning Point, the McHenry County domestic violence agency.
In 2006, Wilbrandt was appointed Associate Judge for McHenry County. He was assigned to the Family and Criminal Divisions, and has also served since that time as Special Assignment Judge for criminal cases in Lake, Kane, DuPage and Winnebago Counties. In 2017, Judge Wilbrandt was appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court to serve as Circuit Judge for McHenry County’s 22nd Judicial Circuit, where he is now assigned to preside over jury trials for the Criminal Division.
An educator at heart, Judge Wilbrandt has served as an adult education and college teacher for most of his adult life. He taught at McHenry County College for over twenty-five years, serving as an Instructor of Business, Law, and History. He taught Domestic Violence Advocate Legal Procedure for staff members of Turning Point. He is an instructor for continuing legal education for the McHenry County Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association. He has taught at the Illinois Judicial Education Conference for the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts, and he continues to present community educational programs such as “Courtroom in the Classroom” and “Seven Reasons to Leave the Party” for the Illinois Bar Association and the Illinois Judges Association.
